A
Building blocks of proteins that are involved in many processes in the body, for example muscle tissue and metabolism.
Substances that react with what are known as free radicals in the body. The term is used in nutritional science for this group of compounds.
B
Plant components of food that the body cannot digest. They pass through the digestive tract largely unchanged.
Plant pigment that is converted into vitamin A in the body. Vitamin A contributes to the maintenance of normal vision and to the normal function of the immune system.
C
Mineral that contributes to the maintenance of normal bones and teeth and to normal muscle function.
A substance the body produces itself and that occurs in the cells.
D
Formulation in which active ingredients are released slowly and evenly over a longer period.
Recommended amount of an ingredient to be taken per day.
E
Minerals such as sodium, potassium and magnesium that occur in the body's fluids.
Fatty acids that the body cannot produce itself and therefore has to take in through food, for example omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids.
